Prior to shipment, instruments would be assembled at the organ builder’s factory in an erecting shop (a high-roofed workshop) to verify the correct assembly and function. The instrument would then be dismantled and shipped to the theatre for re-erection. The use of a ground frame considerably speeds up this re-assembly process.
