Brass Saxophone (Wurlitzer)
Brass Saxophone (Wurlitzer)

The dynamics of the orchestral instrument are as varied and difficult to imitate as organbuilder’s various attempts at so doing.

Construction:
Flared brass resonators (W).

French Horn style resonators (C).

Tapered resonators (full-compass), or special capped resonators (30 notes) (Ch).

Tonality:
Throaty with characteristic brass-resonator colouration; when regulated for power, acquires almost a ‘quack’.
An effective tremulant modifies this to form a blending colour stop of a uniquely haunting tonality. (W).
Smooth medium-power stop not unlike a French Horn (C, Ch).
“Specially voiced” short compass stops have a smooth sound with distinctive bubble and imitative colouration (Ch).
